In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla extract, mixing well. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the butter mixture until a soft dough forms.

In a medium bowl, combine the ground walnuts or hazelnuts with the preserves, stirring until thoroughly mixed.

Divide the dough into four equal portions. On a lightly floured surface, roll each portion into a rectangle approximately 1/8 inch thick. Spread a thin layer of nut filling over each rectangle, leaving a 1 cm border around the edges. Starting from the long side, carefully roll each rectangle into a tight log, pinching the seam to seal.

Place the rolled logs seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in a preheated 175°C oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the rolls are lightly golden brown. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before slicing into 2 cm thick cookies.
