Grab a big bowl and stir the flour, rising powder, salt, and sugar together until they're all mixed up.

In another bowl, beat the egg, vanilla flavor, milk, and melted butter until everything looks smooth.

Add your wet stuff to your dry stuff and mix until you get a nice dough. It should feel soft but not super sticky.

Put enough oil in a deep pan to cover half the pastries and heat it to 175°C (350°F).

Drop spoonfuls of dough into the hot oil. Let them cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side until they puff up and turn golden.

Take the pastries out and put them on paper towels to soak up extra oil. Sprinkle lots of icing sugar on them while they're still hot.

Eat them right away with coffee or hot chocolate for the real deal.
