Slice the tops off all 6 apples, carving small triangles to create eight-point star shapes. Keep the tops with the star patterns, and match the bottom triangles with the same design. On medium heat, stir 2.5 cups of sugar into a saucepan, adding half a cup at a time to form caramel. When the sugar looks golden-brown, pour in a cup of boiling water and let it cool off the heat. After it cools, evenly coat the apple stars with the caramel.

Take the bottom half of your apples and take out the cores. Slice them as thinly as you can and cut each slice into halves. Neatly stack these halved slices into a square baking dish. Beat the eggs, milk, melted butter, 1/2 cup of sugar, and vanilla in a separate bowl. Gently fold in the flour, salt, and baking powder. Pour the mixture over your layered apples, and bake at 180°C (350°F) for 45 minutes.

Take the baked cake out of the oven and carefully flip it out onto a serving plate. Add 6 scoops of ice cream on top. Put one caramel-coated star on each scoop, then drizzle the rest of the caramel sauce over everything. Serve right away while still nice and warm.
